The benefits of networking

Networking with other adoptive parents is good preparation for adoption

This week I have had the good fortune to meet up with a group of adoptive parents in my area, including the AUK group organiser. Although I felt the odd one out as the only prospective adopter, I was able to pick up a lot of tips from parents who have been through the process.

Furthermore I have had the good fortune to meet  adoptive parents who live in my home town  who are on adoption leave, so if the link with Floreana becomes a match and she comes home then there will be others who will understand the challenges of adoption. And there may be the possibility that the los could go to the same school :-)

So overall I feel networking with other adoptive parents is good preparation for adoption. So if you are in the same position as me, make the jump and attend any meetings/training that you can. you never know you might get to meet a fellow auk message board user.... someone said something that was identical to an auk post...  I didnt let on  but it  got me thinking......  would anyone recognise me???? what do people think i look like with a name like galapagos!!!!!

Thank you, this is so encouraging, even though my husband and I have only taken 1 step so far, on the very long adoption ladder, and I don't feel I have anything to add of value to the forums at the moment, I do have 4 friends who have adopted, and one who is just going to panel, I would like to be able to network, and build on those networks as our journey expands ahead of us :-)

hi muminwaiting74... congratulations on starting your adoption journey. It is good that you have started your networking. Two ways of building your network are to get to know people on your preparation course and to attend AUk groups in your area. Good luck gx
