In response to the Government's plans to update adoption guidelines to remove barriers to transracial adoption, Adoption UK's Chief Executive, Jonathan Pearce, has issued the following statement:
Adoption UK is celebrating the release of an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted report. The rating confirms Adoption UK, the only national membership organisation run by and for adoptive parents, as a leading charity for adoptive families.
Children are unprepared to go into care according to a new survey, often not knowing that they are going in at all, or understanding what it will mean, and the details of any future plans for them.
Adoptive parents are praised, whilst local authority adoption agencies are asked to work more closely with voluntary agencies to bring improvements after “disappointing” adoption figures.
At a time when the demand for child protection services is rising, Ofsted warn that a number of local authority departments are a “real cause for concern”.
