Social Consequences of Poor Infant Attachment ... Two is too late

The neurological effects on a baby’s brain development because of the failure to bond or attach to its parent during the first crucial two years of life is profound, and only recently understood.

Our one day conference will inform all child based practitioners of this new found research and the importance of intervention long before the age of two when the nerve cells of the infant’s brain have been laid down.

Does he seem chaotic, clumsy, forgetful, or takes ages to do basic things? Does she get frustrated, downhearted, anxious or agitated when she is faced with even a simple challenge? It may be that he or she has difficulties with what is known in the field of cognitive psychology as “Executive Functioning”.

This Workshop is an opportunity for adoptive parents and foster carers to learn how to help your children develop these important skills.

Why Attachment Matters - in Education

Speaker:

  • Louise Bomber – internationally renowned expert in the field of education and attachment and author of Inside I’m Hurting and What About Me?

Louise Bomber will present on supporting pupils - at home and in residential care - who have experienced significant relational traumas and losses. Some of the themes Louise will cover over the course of the day will be:

  • the attachment framework
  • the specific difficulties these pupils face
  • the need for translation
  • the pupil's voice
  • the parent/carer's voice
  • features of an attachment-friendly school
  • practical strategies to address relational capacities that need development
