Adoption UK runs a number of workshops around the country, to bring the latest ideas on adoption-related issues to prospective adopters, adoptive parents and practitioners.

 

Getting Ready for Placement

When: Friday 3 and Saturday 4 February 2012 (10am to 4:30pm each day)
Where: London

Ideal for adopters and foster carers who have been approved and are waiting for placement, this two-day workshop explores the issues that affect parents and children, aiming to help new parents make positive connections with their child in the early days of placement, based on a knowledge of attachment and the effects of early trauma.

Meeting the Learning Needs of Vulnerable Pupils

When: Thursday 7 February 2012 (10am to 4:30pm)
Where: Uttoxeter, Staffordshire

This one-day workshop, run in partnership with PBM Training and Consultancy, is aimed at educational practitioners who have responsibility for, or contact with, adopted or looked-after children.

It is designed to help participants to examine and understand the issues that arise in schools as a result of the separation, loss and trauma experienced by pupils who have been adopted, are ‘looked after’, those pupils whose parents have separated or are divorced, and those pupils who have experienced the loss of a parent.
