To adopt a child in the UK you need to be approved to adopt by an adoption agency. Find an Agency is a database of adoption and fostering agencies in the UK. Most agencies are part of the local authority children's services (in England and Wales) or social work (in Scotland) department. There are also voluntary agencies run by charities.
